Naming names

Mum keeps a careful eye on her pup.
This is the pup who will be coming with us to our new parish. She is one of the smallest and has unusual colouring for a collie but both The Curate and I feel drawn to her. Now for the name. Jem, our Lakeland, was named after a character in Jamaica Inn ( I know he was a  man). We had decided that our next dog would be called Jem when we were driving back to West Country after living in Gibraltar.  We had listen to the tapes of Jamica Inn as we drove from South to North Spain.

Jed The Collie has a very suitable Devon collie name and he was also our Jedi Knight from Star Wars.

This pup will probably be called Tess - still on the literary theme. Can you guess which area of the UK we are going to next? All will be revealed on Sunday when The Curate's appointment will be officially announced in both parishes ( and here).

    1. Absolutely!
A short trip up the coast to the very beautiful area of Hardy's Wessex.

  2. See, I said one would choose you, Harriet. She's lovely.

I'd vote for Dorset too...... You're going to have to change the title of your blog now, you know. :-)

    1. Oh yes Dorset it is!

I hadn't anticipated being The Rector's Wife (too well known) so when the time comes, I suspect I shall start again.

  3. Tess-to-be looks like a sweetheart! Not knowing the UK at all, I don't have a clue where you will be next, but I can hardly wait to find out.

    1. Hello - Tess is very small and, at the moment, blue eyed( I don't think they will remain blue) We are so looking forward to her joining us after Christmas. We can visit her often until then. Dorset is just along the coast (east) from us and is a very unspoilt part of old England!

Not having read Tess of d'urbervilles ... I had to use Google [it looks a fascinating read! must look out for it] and came up with Dorset, and Nettle- combe-Tout. Lol.

    1. Not quite as specific as Nettlecombe Tout although benefice does have a very Thomas Hardyish name.
