A short walk to the top of Little Staple Tor on a windy day.

We managed a short walk after Christmas - before the awful wind and rain that we have now, set in. Staple Tor is a favourite, as it is close to home and it is a very short, easy walk. It takes you up to 420 metres above sea level and you can see the coast from the top.

The view from the top is always worth the walk.
The ponies were already tucked into the rocks at the top, sheltering from the cold winds. It was as if they had been stabled there.
The Lakeland has a quick chat with the ponies.
A bad hair day!
On a clear day, there is a view to be enjoyed everywhere you look.

And The Curate probably forgot to look because he was playing with his new Christmas present - a GPS.
Where am I?

  2. What great views from your Little Staple Tor!
    Nothing we have over here.
And the ponies, are they wild ponies? How very adorable, just like Abby wrote: )!

  3. Hello, these pones are hill ponies and not the native Dartmoor ponies (which are being carefully bred to keep their pure breeding). All the ponies are owned but run wild on the moor. They get rounded up twice a year and many of them are sold. Their main use is to keep the scrub clear. Lower down, near the car parks, the ponies have learned that humans mean food and will come up to take sandwiches but this encourages them to come near the roads - so it is not good practice to feed the ponies - however adorable they are!

  4. I think my mind must run along strange byways, but the title of the photo of The Curate with his GPS should be 'A Lunar Landscape ... is there anyone out there?"
Best wishes to you and yours for 2012, may the year bring good health and happiness.

  6. Welcome Darla - it's great you could drop by. Hello Shirlwin - Doesn't it look bleak up on the moor? Very moonlike! Happy New Year to you both.
